Nomads Scholars · Nueva Prosperina

Keep a student in school.

Nueva Prosperina is a poor neighborhood on the north side of Guayaquil. For many families there, uniforms, books and school fees are enough to end a child’s schooling. A sponsor covers those costs for one student for a year.

Each student has one sponsor, and sponsors hear from their student through our partners on the ground.

What $350 covers
  • Uniform and shoes
  • Textbooks and workbooks for the school year
  • School supplies: backpack, notebooks, pencils
  • Tutoring
  • Home visits by our partners, who also support the student’s family
  • Program costs: part of enrollment fees, a small Christmas gift, and local administration
How it works
  1. Fill in the sponsorship form.
  2. Our partners match you with a student who is waiting for a sponsor, starting with those who have waited longest.
  3. Within a few weeks you receive your student’s photo and story.
  4. Through the year you get updates on how your student is doing.

Questions sponsors ask

Can I choose my student? No. To be fair to the children who have waited longest, our partners make the match.

Can I write to my student? Yes, messages are passed along. Gifts can’t be sent.

What if my student leaves the program? We tell you right away and match you with another student.

Can I give without sponsoring? Yes. Use the donate page and choose Nomads Scholars.

Is it tax-deductible? Nomads of Hope, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3), so your sponsorship is deductible as the law allows, and you get a receipt.
